Tahitian Dance

“Tamahine et Tamaroa” – (Children Ages: 4 – 12 years old)
Mondays & Wednesdays | 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM

Come and learn the basics of Tahitian Dance. This class will teach your children the basic terminology of hand movements and hip movements of Tahitian Dance, along with the teachings of basic drum beats of Tahiti. No previous experience is required. Everyone is welcomed.

Required attire: Pareo (sarong), shorts or sweatpants for girls. Athletic shorts or sweatpants for boys, t-shirt, no shoes (socks are permissible). Classes will be accompanied by live drumming and music.

 

“Taurea, Toa, Aito, Hiva et Fetia” – (Adults Ages: 13+)
Mondays & Wednesdays | 8:15 PM – 9:15 PM

Come and learn the basics of Tahitian Dance. This class will teach the terminology of the Tahitian Dance movement and choreography, along with the teachings of basic drum beats and music of Tahiti. No previous experience is required. Everyone is welcomed.

Required attire: Pareo (sarong), shorts or sweatpants for girls. Athletic shorts or sweatpants for boys, t-shirt, no shoes (socks are permissible). Classes will be accompanied by live drumming and music.

 


Drumming & Music

Tuesdays | 8:45 PM – 10:15 PM

Explore the sounds and rhythms of Tahitian drumming and music. Learn to play traditional Tahitian instruments such as Toere, Tairi Parau, Fa’atete and Pahu Rima. Learn the language and the techniques of the Tahitian drum.

Class requirements: Notebook, pen/pencil, portable stool/chair and Tahitian drum (stick included) of choice if you have one.

 


Here’s our drumming class at their first competition under the direction of Kristopher Lee. They entered hura ava tau (beginner) and placed first in their category.
